Musicology professor Katherine Brandt is racing against time to uncover an intriguing centuries-old mystery as much as she is struggling to come to terms with her own daughter. Her obsession with why Beethoven would write dozens of variations on what was once considered a mediocre waltz transports us from present-day New York to 19th-century Austria. As these two worlds collide, Katherine learns to embrace her own legacy as the secret of one of the most revolutionary musical masterpieces unfolds.
