Meet Jerry Gorman. He's a thirty-four-year-old guy from Passaic, New Jersey, who just got promoted to Snack Bar Manager at Wal-Mart. His mother is thrilled, but Jerry is depressed. Deep inside, he knows he was born to achieve something extraordinary. But what? With the help of his girlfriend, Gracie, and a movie rental from Netflix, Jerry has an epiphany: He wants to fly! But how? He's not very bright, not very rich, and not very cool, unlike his neighbor, airplane pilot Big Jack Preston. Plus, Jerry is so dyslexic he can't even drive a car. The neighbors think he's nuts. But Gracie encourages Jerry to quit his job and follow his "Jerriosity." Together, Jerry and Gracie try flight school, the Up With People Space Program, and anything else they can think of to help Jerry soar into the stratosphere. But they are stymied by bureaucracy, Jerry's disapproving mother, and deep, dark family secrets. Finally, when all seems lost, Jerry and Gracie hit on a highly unorthodox method of getting airborne. With a little help from a lawnchair and 400 helium-filled toy balloons, Jerry defies the odds and takes to the friendly skies. Once aloft, Jerry is thrilled by the splendor of flight. But his reverie is quickly halted when Big Jack flies by in a jumbo jet, spots Jerry in his floating lawnchair, and reports Jerry to Homeland Security. Meanwhile, Gracie is on the ground with a walkie-talkie fending off the media and an FAA Agent, who charges Jerry with piloting an unlicensed lawnchair and demands he land immediately. Oblivious to the commotion on the ground, Jerry rises higher into the glorious atmosphere, where he discovers Leonardo Da Vinci, Charles Lindbergh, and Amelia Earhart, who urge him to join the greats of aviation in the sky. In the end, Jerry has a decision to make: come back down to earth, or fly forever where the air is free. |

The Fort Thomas Independent Schools is starting an Adult Summer Theatre Program where community members will have the opportunity to perform in Highlands High School's new, state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center (PAC).
The district hopes that many Greater Cincinnati community members will be involved in the play. Open auditions will be held in May for the acting roles, but over 50-100 people will be needed for each production. "We want as many people as possible to bring their expertise to the productions, whether it's in acting, set design or costuming," Burgess says. "We wanted an outlet that allows alumni, community members, neighbors, friends, senior citizens and anyone else to be a part of a production." |

League of Cincinnati Theatres
48Hour Film Project Actor/Team Mixer
Want to Act in a 48Hour film? Want to make a 48Hour film but you need someone to act? Then we have the event for you.
The Cincinnati 48Hour Film Project is teaming up with The League of Cincinnati Theatres to bring actors and Cincinnati 48Hour Film Project teams together.
Actors and actresses should bring a 60 second monologue. You may bring a head shot, or we can take one for you. The actors and actresses will be brought up on a first come first served basis. Each actor and actress will deliver their monologue on camera for the teams to watch.
Afterwards the actors and producers will have a chance to meet and talk. Contact information for all actors in attendance will be made available to all of the Cincinnati 48Hour film project teams.
I would encourage former 48Hour Film Project teams to bring their past films, as we will have stations set up where teams can screen their work. I would encourage people interested in working crew positions to also attend. You will be able to meet with the teams, and we will include your information in the data base as well.
There will also be a cash bar during the event.
For any questions please contact Christian Appleby at cincinnati@48hourfilm.com.

Southern Indiana, early 1930s. During the depression, C.C. Showers, a disenchanted preacher, meets Buddy Layman, young boy who is deathly terrified of water due to an accident early in his life. Buddy suffered brain damage from the accident which also took his mother's life, preventing his mind from developing any further. C.C., who is determined to step away from the pulpit, befriends Buddy and takes on a job at the farm where the young boy lives. The two develop a remarkable bond, each affecting the other's life immensely, with an acceptance of who the other is; not what others want them to be. The women of the town attempt repeatedly to persuade C.C. to become the preacher of the town, as the town has been in need of a spiritual revival for some time, the depression having marked the town with an air of desperation. Meanwhile, C.C tries to convince Buddy that the water won't kill him, since the boy has not bathed in 10 years and suffers from a terrible rash of ringworm. The dramatic climax comes after a horrendous thunderstorm, when the preacher is able to get the boy into the river to wash. The townspeople, seeing this, believe it is a baptism. In the emotional confusion, Buddy is lost in the river forever. |

Grover's Corners, New Hampshire. Small, rural, out-of-the-way fictional town. 1901 to 1913. Our Town concerns itself with the continuing cycle of life, humankind's nearest understanding of eternity. Christian morality, community, the family, appreciation of everyday pleasures are the central tenets of this play. Yet, the presentation of these values on stage are anything but conventional. Time and place are manipulated. The here-and-now details of a small New England village become the timeless concerns of all humankind. The action builds toward the dramatic revelation that human life, however painful, or seemingly inconsequential, is both a precious gift in its own right and a sharing in the mysterious plan that swirls in the "Mind of God." |
